EcoTogether makes sustainability simple, achievable and impactful.

The Sessions

EcoTogether helps small groups of people take action on sustainability through five structured sessions. These sessions cover key areas of sustainable living, with activities and discussions designed to inspire practical changes.

This session is about getting organised and understanding your powers to create change.

Session 1: Introduction

Purpose:

Set the stage for the programme by introducing group members, goals and guidelines.

Key Activities:

  • Introductions and sharing personal aims.
  • Discussing group guidelines (commitment, non-judgement, confidentiality).
  • Emphasising the importance of respecting each other’s privacy. Sharing within the group is encouraged, but discussions should remain confidential to foster openness and honesty.
  • Acknowledging that groups are free to collectively share their experiences beyond sessions if all members agree.
  • Reflecting on individual motivations for climate action.
Small energy-saving actions today can lead to significant financial and carbon savings tomorrow.

Session 2: Energy

Purpose:

Help participants reduce energy use and adopt renewable options.

Key Activities:

  • Share insights from the Carbon Savvy Calculator.
  • Discuss simple energy-saving ideas, like draft-proofing or reducing energy during peak hours.
  • Explore renewable energy options (green tariffs, solar panels).
Rethinking our travel can reduce emissions and even save money.

Session 3: Transport

Purpose:

Rethink travel choices to reduce emissions.

Key Activities:

  • Discuss challenges and successes with alternatives like cycling or car-sharing.
  • Set personal goals, such as reducing flights or switching to an electric vehicle.
What we eat has a profound impact on the planet and our communities.

Session 4: Food

Purpose:

Encourage sustainable eating habits.

Key Activities:

  • Explore ideas like eating seasonal produce or reducing food waste.
  • Share plant-based recipes and discuss local food options.
Embracing pre-loved and sharing resources builds resilient communities and saves waste.

Session 5: Resources

Purpose:

Reduce consumption and embrace circular living

Key Activities:

  • Identify opportunities to buy pre-loved items or repair instead of replacing.
  • Discuss systemic change through advocacy and community initiatives.
Your journey doesn’t end here – it’s just beginning.

Next Steps

While not an official session, “Next Steps” is an opportunity for your group to reflect on what you’ve achieved and decide how to carry your momentum forward. Here’s how you can continue your journey:

  • Reflect and Share: Celebrate your achievements and discuss what worked well. Share your experiences with the EcoTogether community or others in your network.
  • Plan Your Next Actions: Whether it’s continuing to meet, starting new sustainability initiatives, or focusing on advocacy, set goals for the future.
  • Inspire Others: Use your group’s success as a springboard to encourage friends, neighbours, or colleagues to start their own EcoTogether journey. Why It Works
Collaboration and small actions lead to big results.

Why it works

EcoTogether’s approach works because it is:

  • Accessible: Sessions are designed to be run by anyone, with easy-to-follow activity sheets.
  • Social: Groups provide support, motivation and accountability. Many participants form lasting friendships, building a sense of community that extends beyond the sessions.
  • Action-Oriented: Each session encourages practical steps that participants can implement immediately. Each session encourages practical steps that participants can implement immediately.
As a participant, you are part of a growing movement.

Your Role

  • Participant: Join a group and take part in activities to reduce your impact.
  • First Host: Start a group and guide others through the sessions.
  • Advocate: Share your journey to inspire others and encourage systemic change.
Groups can choose how to run their sessions – rotating hosts or using a venue, the choice is yours.

First Host & Facilitation Options

The First Host plays a key role in getting the group started and guiding the first session. After that, groups can find their own way of working. Here are some suggestions:

  • Rotating Hosts: Share facilitation responsibilities across group members, ensuring everyone has a chance to lead.
  • Skill-Based Hosting: Members take turns leading sessions where they feel most comfortable, such as a foodie hosting the food session.
  • Partner Hosting: Two members co-host sessions to share responsibilities.
  • Casual Rotation: Decide at the end of each session who will host next.
  • Consistent Venue or Leadership: Groups may prefer to meet in a regular venue, such as a village hall, with one or more consistent facilitators.

These are just suggestions – every group finds its own rhythm. The flexibility allows you to tailor the programme to your needs and preferences.

Everything you need to take action is at your fingertips.
